THE ENDURING MERCY OF GOD

Among other things, the mercy of God ensures that no man should die in his sins. Hence, God makes a way where there seems to be no way, such that we can boldly say:

BY THE MERCY OF GOD THE WAY OF THE CROSS LEADS HOME

Titus 3:3-6

 For we {ourselves} also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

 But after that, the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; �

 

THE DANGERS OF IGNORING THE MERCY OF GOD

Hosea 4:6

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge:because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me:

seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God,

I will also forget thy children.

Hosea 4:7

As they were increased, so they sinned against me:

therefore will I change their glory into shame.

Acquiring knowledge yields many dividends; It, thus, means that failure to obtain knowledge is the bane of all forms of depravity. It is either you have it and work with it, or get destroyed. Apply your knowledge today.

Ignorance of God’s word leads to sin, which leads to an exchange of glory for shame. That leads one to forfeit all divine privileges. Embrace the mercy of God.

My People 

It is not just sinners who get destroyed, but even God’s people are easily so by ignorance. Ignorance can sabotage your salvation.

You may pride yourself as a child of God and still expose yourself to the danger of ignorance. Ignorance, such as would make one sing thus: I will fold my hands, and Jesus fights the battle…, is designed from the pit of hell. 

No one folds his hands at the battlefront and gets away with it, no matter who is helping out. 

E.g., King David tried it and paid dearly for it with the guilt, condemnation, and consequences of his sin against Uriah’s household. 

DIVINE MERCY ABORTS DESTRUCTION

There is no limit to the destructiveness of the adversary; just as the bible describes his activities: 

John 10:10

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.

Thank God for Jesus, who has come to give abundant life to all men. 

As it is, one would wonder why any man in his right senses would choose to settle for ignorance rather than acquire knowledge, let alone apply it. 

Well, it may not always be a deliberate choice; Circumstances could force men to do what they should not do and neglect what they should. Yet, that is not enough excuse to settle for shame, especially where there is room to do otherwise. 

You need balanced knowledge to do as you ought. Knowing what the devil can do, and living in ignorance of what God has done, is detrimental to faith in God. The above passage does not say Jesus will come and rescue you, but He has done so already and established abundant life for you. However, you must claim it by faith to enjoy it.

 

GRACE AND GLORY: FUELED BY DIVINE MERCY

Psalms 84:11

For the Lord God is a sun and shield:

the Lord will give grace and glory:

no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

God gives the grace to depart from shame and enjoy His glory. When you neglect or reject the grace of God, you suffer the shame and reproach of sin. 

REPENTANCE: EFFECTIVE THROUGH THE MERCY OF GOD

The grace for repentance unto salvation, would earn you God’s acceptance and approval, and thereby banish damnation and shame. 

Thank God you can still repent today, while you have the chance. 

Repent and be saved. 

 

ENDURING MERCIES

2 Chronicles 7:3
And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth forever.

Divine mercy endures forever. Enduring mercy is the saving attribute of God’s love. The mercy of God endures forever.

The tender mercies of God are new every morning; And these abound unto His faithful children, from a faithful God, in all generations.

Man’s mercy is short-lived, if at all. Unlike God, man is unmerciful.

The glory of God is an outright result of His great mercies. If not for His mercies, man would remain forever short of God’s glory. Therefore, to take the mercy of the Lord for granted is to take His glory for granted.

 What can we then say about the ungodly?

 

JESUS SAVES

 

1. Some lack mercy on others, yet they expect it.

 2. They receive mercy but withhold mercy from others.

 3. They enjoy mercy; still, they deny others of it.

 4. They remain merciless; hence they forfeit mercy.

 5. They fail to forgive, and they reject forgiveness.

 

TO ENJOY DIVINE MERCY, REPENT, AND BE SAVED

 

6. They seek not forgiveness; they remain unforgiven.

 7. They neglect enduring mercies, and they settle for no mercy.

 8. They mock the Lord of mercy, and they miss their chance of enjoying it.

 9. They, thus, condemn themselves to eternal doom; while forfeiting eternal bliss.

 10. They wash their hands off the matter of faith, only to wallow in doubt.
