STUDY THE WORD OF GOD DAILY

Anything less than the daily study of the word of God is not good enough. You need the total counsel of God to survive in life and live above sin; And studying the scriptures daily will make you victorious.

2 Timothy 2:15

Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

THE DAY THE LORD HAS MADE

Psalms 118:24

This is the day which the Lord hath made;

we will rejoice and be glad in it.

As you appropriate the above scripture daily, at the end of each day, you should be able to ask yourself this question: Now, how have I spent today?

1. STUDYING THE WORD  ENHANCES GRATITUDE

You cannot rejoice and be glad in the Lord’s day without rejoicing the heart of the owner of the day.

To rejoice in the Lord all day is to appreciate the day the Lord has made and show gratitude to Him by your holy comportment.

1 Corinthians 3:13

Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.

2. THE STUDY OF THE WORD ENHANCES ACCOUNTABILITY

Every man shall give account before the Lord for how he spent each day on earth.

I must give an account of my day, for the evening is the time to account for the work done during the day. Have I done any worthwhile job today? Was that the best I could do under the circumstances? Am I going to allow my situations and circumstances to master me, or find a way, device a means to master them? I must do something, by the grace of God; In Jesus Name.

It is only in this life you can prepare for eternity; once it is over, there is nothing more you can do. Your gifts and talents will become useless to you after you depart this world; it is only what you achieve with it here on earth that will determine how you spend eternity.

The choice is yours to serve God with your talent and enjoy eternal rewards, or do otherwise and forfeit them.

3. STUDYING THE WORD MAKES YOU DILIGENT

Proverbs 12:24

The hand of the diligent shall bear rule:
but the slothful shall be under tribute.

GET A JOB; FIND WORK TO DO

You cannot serve God in idleness, you must be busy in service to God, no matter your area of calling, at home or abroad. A life of laziness is an ungodly lifestyle;

  1. I must tell Jesus, and He will show me the way to live a godly life;
  2. How to go about my work in diligent service to the Lord;
  3. And to get the money I need to pay my bills.

Hymn: I must tell Jesus.

The question is, how does Jesus do it?

No matter in which area you labour, do it to the glory of God.

He leads you in the way you should go and tells you what to do. Service to God requires diligence in all areas of life.

4. STUDY THE WORD TO BE SPIRIT-LED

Deuteronomy 1:33

Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to shew you by what way ye should go, and in a cloud by day.

John 16:13

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

When you need a job, God will show you what to do, and it is up to you to locate and accept it. He can start you with something little, but He will not leave you there. You must, therefore, not despise the days of your little beginning.

Ecclesiastes 9:10

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave,

Isaiah 1:19

If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:

Diligence demands that no one should rest on his oars, waiting for the things to happen, when they can make things happen. For the willing and obedient, there is so much to do, to get to where they desire.

Psalms 48:14

For this God is our God forever and ever:

he will be our guide even unto death.

5. STUDY THE WORD TO APPLY WISDOM

And, you must act wisely and let wisdom direct you.

Ecclesiastes 10:10

If the iron be blunt, and he does not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.

It is only in this life you can prepare for eternity; once it is over, there is nothing more you can do. Your gifts and talents will become useless to you after you depart this world; it is what you achieve with it here on earth that will determine how you spend eternity.

The choice is yours to serve God with your talent and enjoy eternal rewards, or do otherwise and forfeit them.

6. STUDY THE WORD BE FOCUSED

Luke 9:62

And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Joshua 24:15

And if it seems evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Your life must glorify the Lord, no matter your talent or areas of calling in life. You are here to praise and honour God with your life and not to imitate the wayward fellows you see around every day.

It is possible to be an example of the faithful servant of God to others, and that is if you follow the requirements of the word of God.

Apostle Paul, knowing this from personal experience, wrote in:

Hebrews 12:2

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The Christian life is one that is focused on the life of Jesus Christ, to walk in His steps.

Looking away briefly from Jesus to the problems of life, you may crash-land your flight, sink your boat, and end the journey in disaster; And since all other ground is sinking sand, you must continually stand on Christ the Solid Rock only.

7. STUDY THE WORD TO MAKE PROGRESS DAILY

Make good plans for each day. Some guiding questions and actions include:

  •  What are my plans for today?

  • What steps will I take to implement them?

  • What are some of my strategies for improvement in my daily duties?

  • How would I ensure God gets glorified at the end?

  • Remain strong steadfast, faithful and true as you continue to study the scriptures daily.
  • Do not quit; because those who put their trust in God do not quit.

ACHAN

A man knotting his tie.
FASHION OBSESSION

Character Study

Joshua 7:1

But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against the children of Israel.

The sin of one man, Achan, was accounted for by the whole nation of Israel; what would happen when multitudes fall into sin? The guilt of one became the guilt of all when Eve sinned, and Adam followed suit. Thank God for Jesus, who came to bail the world out the trouble sin brought into it.

Jesus is the reason for the season.

Repent and be saved.

1. Generational Curse

While men and women seek to become blessings to their loved ones and the entire world, Achan brought a curse upon his generation. In the end, his excuse was mild compared to his punishment.

Sin is a seed planted against generations of people, which yields a great harvest of punishment, until repented of, where there is a place for repentance; remember Esau in:

Hebrews 12:16

Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

Hebrews 12:17

For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

The time and place of repentance will one day cease to be.

Why would you or anyone want to wait until it is too late to repent?

Perhaps, if Achan had repented before he was found guilty by the lot cast on all the people, he might have had some reprieve.

Esau of his choice sold his generational birthright, which was as bad as incurring a curse upon them; that is the same thing you do when you neglect or reject the blessings of God.

2. Sorry Victims Of Greed

Achan’s entire lineage became that: sorry victims of greed, not minding that some of them were innocent.

It all begins with stubbornness, where you know what to do, but for some flimsy reasons, fail to do it.

To become a sorry victim of sin, you are first a stubborn victim of disobedience to God’s word. The word of God contains the laid down instructions for success, as it affects the divine guidance of the children of God. When you choose to go contrary, you choose regrets. May God have mercy on every one of us.

Poverty is not an excuse for greed.

Therefore, one can, in warning, say:

  1. Greed is a sour seed to sow in one’s lifetime;
  2. The covetous spirit manifests through greed;
  3. Greed is one reason behind ill-gotten wealth;
  4. Where and when self-control is lacking, greed sets in;
  5. With greed in your life, some things are bound to go wrong;
  6. Lust, pride, deceit, etc., constitute some underlying causes of greed;
  7. Where there is a curse, you must seek a cure.
  8. To neglect or fail to seek a solution is to fan a problem;
  9. The salvation of nations depends on seeking the cure for sin through repentance;
  10. Rebellion is the self-inflicted death sentence on yourself, all that is yours, and others in general.
  11. Greed will get you into trouble too big to come out of
And just like Achan had plunged his entire generation into trouble from which they could not recover, so many innocent lives are suffering from the results of the sins of their brothers and sisters, in some families, tribes, and nations today. The way out is repentance;

E.g. In the book of Daniel, chapter 9, Daniel interceded for the nation of Israel, repenting of their sins;

Daniel 9:16

O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us.

God needs a man to stand in the gap in families, communities, nations, etc. Will you be that person?

Learn to pray for yourself, family, friends, and loved ones, etc.

Pray with all prayer and supplication.

The more you pray, the more you get to cure the curses plaguing men and women in the world; and the more blessed you would become. Receive grace.
