The CENTURION: HIS GREAT FAITH

GREAT FAITH: LIFE INSURANCE

You and I need the Great Faith.

In life, while most situations call for faith in God, some very difficult ones demand great faith. Hence, you should learn early to exercise great faith in God, to weather all storms of life. As for the Centurion, he did just that.

And one remarkable thing about Him was that he did not let his position get into his head, or deprive him of the miracle he needed so badly.

Thus, his humble faith was a great factor in the quick healing of his servant.

Now, it may interest you to understand who a Centurion is, as we shall see in the next subheading.

Below is a brief definition of a Centurion, in answer to the question the next question.

WHO IS A CENTURION?

Knowledge Pays

A centurion was a position in the Roman army during classical antiquity, nominally the commander of a century, a military unit of around 80 legionaries. In a Roman legion, centuries were grouped into cohorts and were commanded by their senior-most centurion. Wikipedia

A man of Authority, with servants. His word is law in all jurisdictions.
His presence commands great respect. A man of great influence and affluence, though a mortal.

Also, there are several such influential men and women in our society today, who wield great authority in the corridors of power.

THE WORD OF GOD IS POWER

You should focus on the Word of God for your faith to grow, and wax great.

The WORD OF THE LORD IS POWER

Matthew 8:8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

The fact that Jesus was ready to go with him to his house, but he refused, further confirms the meekness of the Centurion.

Matthew 8:7 And Jesus said to him, I will come and heal him.

And Jesus’ willingness to go with him stresses the fact that He has also been ready long ago to answer your prayer, if only you will pray.

He is ready to accept you, no matter who you are. Jesus is not selective of His followers. Availability is the only qualification you need for a start.

John 6:37 All that the Father gives me shall come to me; and him that comes to me I will in no wise cast out.

Matthew 8:9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it.

Matthew 8:10 When Jesus heard it, he marveled, and said to them that followed, Truly I say to you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

This should challenge you to show your great faith.

BUT HOW? You may want to ask, and you are right to do so, being not alone in this.

Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Faith is born in you, and you exercise it by hearing the Word of God.

WHY WOULD AN INFLUENTIAL MAN BEG?

And more interestingly, what could a rich man possibly beg for?

It is no news when a poor man begs, but the rich doing so could cause quite a stir, for many to raise their eye brows.

And even you, now that you are rich and highly placed, what more could you lack? Where would that problem dare to come from again? You may wonder.

And, of course, no one would expect you to go begging for anything.

However, at some point in life, every man comes to realize that money is not everything.

PRIDE: THE ENEMY OF FAITH

Many people, rich or poor, are too proud to ask for favours, let alone beg.

And some would rather steal than humble themselves to admit a need. Then, when such people lay hold on some sudden wealth, they make their boast loud and clear.

That is why my native people chose to put it thus: ” vbó ghi yekede?” That means, from where else would wahala (problem) ever come again (with this my great wealth)?

Well, you are not alone in such an illusion; We shall look at the case of another man who did just that.

And several other men are even doing worse in contemporary times, too.

Luke 12:19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have much goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

Luke 12:20 But God said to him, You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?

No doubt, where faith in God is lacking, wisdom is wanting, and foolishness lurking.

Now, let us have a flashback to the beginning, under the following heading, and see more from this ongoing story.

GRIEVOUS TORMENTS RESPECT ONLY GREAT FAITH

Matthew 8:5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came to him a centurion, beseeching him,

Matthew 8:6 And saying, Lord, my servant lies at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.

The Centurion had come begging Jesus for something, but it was not food or drink, not position, or any material gain, as he already had all those.

Therefore, we can say, it is not only the basic amenities of life that sustain a man, there is always more required.
Your health could suddenly fail without remedy, tragedy could strike at any time; God, have mercy.

Lamentations 3:22 It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

No wonder, Jesus says in,

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

The Words of the Lord are words of compassion.

The Word of God is power.

And the Centurion knew it, confessed to it, and, hence, reaped the manifest benefit.
What are you waiting for?

AFFLICTION RESPECTS NO ONE, RICH OR POOR

Like the centurion, today, there are men ‍ in positions of honour and great wealth in our nation and beyond, but who still seek solutions to some nagging problems in their lives, often to no avail, until they encounter Jesus Christ.

Now, what was the problem of the Centurion?

In his words, “…my servant lies at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.”

His money could have easily fetched him some medication or drugs for his servant, but it seemed to no avail.

There have been and still are many examples, of what money, influence, authority, aggression, power play and luxurious parades could not do.

E.g., The Assyrian Captain, Naaman, was another afflicted man, despite his lofty position in life. And that meant he could not live a fulfilled life, with a problem that defied solutions.

2 Kings 5:1 Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and , because by him the LORD had given deliverance to Syria: he was also a mighty man in valor, but he was a leper.

Oh, what a contradiction of sorts!

And, who, in their right senses could ever have imagined what his respectable, awe inspiring, authoritative (to say the least), army uniforms covered?

Leprosy? An army captain?

That sounds more like a double puzzle.

This further confirms what the scripture says in

1 John 5:19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness.

If not so, how else can anyone explain why someone who has everything would be secretly dying in silence? And, shamefully, so, like someone who just messed up in a public gathering. And, far worse than a child who pooed on himself.

There has to be more to the problem than meets the eye. The world is engulfed by tribulations, the majority of which are caused by wickedness.

TRIBULATION: A BI-PRODUCT OF UNGODLINESS

Tribulation is a great manifestation of the wickedness of the wicked. It respects no one, rich or poor, high or low, as long as the whole world lies in darkness.

John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

1 John 5:19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness.
1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and has given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Thank God that Jesus has overcome the world 🌎. In Him we have our victory ✌️.

Safety is only in Jesus Christ. Come to Jesus today. Humble yourself and pray.

Pray like this:

O god my father, have mercy on me. Let the wickedness of the wicked over my life and destiny come to an end, today, right 👉 now.

The Lord has promised to answer your call.

Your preparedness to pray and promptly obey instructions are some things you should attend to, to get the answer you desire. To achieve quick results, learn to act fast and not procrastinate.

REPENT AND BE SAVED TODAY.

Do it now.

2 Corinthians 6:2 (For he said, I have heard you in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succored you: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Psalms 86:7 In the day of my trouble I will call on you: for you will answer me.

Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you know not.

That was precisely what Jesus did for the Centurion: He gave him an answer of peace ✌️, just like Joseph assured the Pharaoh that God would do in this passage,

Genesis 41:16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

And He did.

GREAT FAITH: IT YIELDS AN ANSWER OF PEACE

Matthew 8:13 And Jesus said to the centurion, Go your way; and as you have believed, so be it done to you. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

The same answer of peace ✌️ applies to you today.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you: not as the world gives, give I to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

You have it, but you may not know it until you allow it to manifest in your life.

Therefore, you have to acknowledge the grace of God upon your life by which the Holy Spirit bestows divine peace on your soul.

Enjoy Divine Peace Today.
